Growing & Maintenance:

In spring, apply balanced fertilizer according to package directions. Check soil weekly for moisture. Water thoroughly when dry. Adequate water until the ground freezes is necessary to sustain plant during the winter. In spring, remove branches damaged during winter. Prune at anytime to shape if needed. Can be pruned for a formal appearance. Apply mulch 2-3" deep around plant to keep roots cool in summer. During first winter, protect from sun with a burlap barrier to lessen loss of moisture. No winter protection other than fall mulch is necessary after roots are well-established.
