In spring, apply balanced fertilizer according to package directions. Check soil weekly for moisture. Water thoroughly when dry. Adequate water until the ground freezes is necessary to sustain plant during the winter. Pruning rarely needed, but can be done in spring or summer if needed. Apply mulch 2-3" deep around plant to protect roots in winter. No additional winter protection other than fall mulching is needed.
